TurboVote Site Customizations

Once your organization partners with TurboVote, our team builds your custom TurboVote site complete with a unique URL and your branding. Partners can customize select language throughout their site and enable certain features, if they’d like. Keep reading to learn about all of the options!

Custom URL

The first aspect of your TurboVote site is the URL, which is customized for each partner. It can simply be your institution’s name or nickname (e.g., autodesk.turbovote.org), or the name of your voter engagement initiative (e.g., votesc.turbovote.org). It’s up to you! We encourage partners to choose a URL that is short, simple, and easy to remember.

Custom Branding

You can also customize your TurboVote site with your logo and 1-2 accent color(s). Check out these great examples from National Voter Registration Day, Cummins, and Louisiana State University for inspiration.

National Voter Registration Day has their logo displayed on their TurboVote homepage, as well as a single custom color and custom welcome title.

Cummins’ TurboVote homepage has two custom colors; the primary color is applied to hyperlinks, buttons, and the footer, while the secondary custom color can be seen in the top bar of the landing page. They have also added custom language.

Louisiana State University’s TurboVote homepage also has two custom colors on their landing page, as well as some custom text. (Scroll down to learn more!)

Web Accessibility

We rely on the industry standard webaim.org contrast checker tool to ensure every one can access your TurboVote site with ease.

Please share a primary accent color with our team that is dark enough to pass contrast tests when shown against a white background.

We'll reach out if we need to use a different accent color that will provide sufficient contrast with the white text on TurboVote (hex code #ffffff). If you have a color that does not pass the contrast test, one option is to use it as the secondary custom color, since this neither applies to text nor serves as the background for text. You can then use a darker color for your primary color.

Custom Language

Next, you may request to add custom language to certain pages within the TurboVote signup flow. You can build upon TurboVote’s default language by including voting information specific to your organization, promoting voter engagement initiatives, or linking to a website or email address for users to follow if they’d like more information about your efforts.

You can even embed a photo or video, as the University of Florida did!

The TurboVote Voter Engagement Program Team must review all language customizations. Typically, we reject customizations that could degrade the user experience — either because the customization lengthens the page too much, or it could confuse users about the technical aspects of registering to vote. We also reserve the right to reject partisan customization requests.

Implementation Tip: Use our Main Customizations Form to change your logo, custom color(s), language on your main TurboVote landing page, and language throughout the voter registration assistance flow. This form will show you the places on your site where you can add or alter language. Since none of the fields are required, you can flip back and forth through it before making any final decisions.

Custom Landing Pages

Your TurboVote home page features four calls-to-action:

In addition to promoting your TurboVote home page, you have the opportunity to leverage four additional customizable landing pages, each focused on a different call-to-action for voters.

Register to Vote Page:

[yoursite].turbovote.org/register-to-vote

Promote this page when encouraging your audience to register to vote. The primary call-to-action is Register to Vote and the secondary call-to-action is Check Your Registration. You can customize the language on this landing page.

Check Your Registration Page:  [yoursite].turbovote.org/check-your-registration

Promote this page when nudging your audience to check their voter registration status. The primary call-to-action is Check Your Registration and the secondary call-to-action is Register to Vote. You can customize the language on this landing page and the form users complete to check their status.

Get Election Reminders Page: [yoursite].turbovote.org/reminders

Leverage this page to get your audience enrolled in TurboVote's text and email election alerts. The primary call-to-action is Get Election Reminders and the secondary call-to-action is Register to Vote. You can customize the language on this landing page, the form users complete to enroll in reminders, and the success page users see after signing up.

Pledge to Register Page:
[yoursite].turbovote.org/pledge-to-register

Leverage this page to make it easy for 15-17 years olds to get registered to vote as soon as they turn 18 and invite their friends to pledge to register, too. The primary call-to-action is Pledge to Register. You can customize the language on this landing page, the form users complete to pledge, and the success page users see after signing up.

Implementation Tip: Use our Landing Pages Customizations Form to request customizations for your Custom Landing Pages. The Landing Pages Customizations Form will show you the places on your site where you can add or alter language. Since none of the fields are required, you can flip back and forth through it before making any final decisions.

Campus Address Dropdown Menu

The campus address dropdown menu is available for higher education partners. It empowers students to more easily register to vote with an on-campus address, if that’s what they’d like to do. After working with you and your campus’s local election official to secure your preferences and the list of addresses, our team can either upload each residence hall address separately or a single campus address for on-campus voter registration.

Request Customizations

Use the Main Customization Form to change your logo, custom color(s), language on your main TurboVote landing page, and language throughout the voter registration assistance flow.

Use the Landing Page Customizations Form for your Custom Landing Pages: Register to Vote, Check Your Registration, Get Election Reminders, and Pledge to Register.

Updates will be processed within five business days. We may reach out to you if we have any questions, or need any clarifications on your requests.
